I was really pleased to hear that the government intends to close a legal loophole which currently prevents the Child Maintenance Service from taking child support payments out of a jointly held account.

From the start of 2018 the Child Maintenance Service will have power to recover all monies due, irrespective if they are jointly held or not.   Undoubtedly the people who most benefit from these actions are the children themselves.

The “loophole” only affects a very small number of cases, but the government’s actions could mean an additional £390,000 worth of child support being taken each year.

Furthermore the government is planning to overhaul the existing laws in the new year.
