It is a sad reality of life that unfortunately, for some people, foodbanks can be an absolute lifeline. Foodbanks rely on donations and the support from local communities – there are ten foodbanks in the Knowsley area alone.

Foodbanks can struggle with keeping stock of certain food items, especially in the run up to Christmas. The Big Help Project (Knowsley Foodbank), a Knowsley based registered charity have decided to run a “Reverse Advent Calendar”, to appeal to the public for contributions to help people who find themselves in food crisis during the winter months. The scheme commences on Monday 5^th November, and will run over a 25 day period, during which time the public will be able to donate either a food item, an item of their choice or make a cash donation.

The Big Help Project will also be launching a new scheme, “Stop Knowsley Period Poverty”, whereby free sanitary products will be available to women across the Knowsley area.  The scheme is due to commence on Monday 5^th November, and from this date women and girls can call into any of the ten foodbanks, charity shops or food clubs situated throughout Knowsley, and ask for sanitary products free of charge, and as often as required.
