Mediation is a procedure in which independent and professionally trained mediators help those who are having trouble agreeing on issues in relation to children and finances following separation.
The mediator is there to help both parties and to listen to all issues arising from the separation.
This is less stressful, more cost effective and time efficient than going to court.
The mediator will help both parties come to an agreement that they are happy with and will inform parties of any legal procedures needed to make the agreement binding.
Parties can also conduct mediation separately if they feel they cannot be in the same room.
Most Judges will expect parties to have tried mediation before going to court as research has shown that the success rate of mediation is 70% for all those that attend.
At Maxwell Hodge our dedicated Family Team can support you with advice during mediation and help you to finalise matters with an appropriate court order.
